tES MRI Electrodes
These types of electrodes are specially designed to be MRI compatible, enabling safe and reliable brain stimulation inside an MRI scanner, which sets them apart from standard tES electrodes. Standard tES electrodes often contain metals that can quickly heat up causing movement and distortion to MRI images, whereas MRI compatible electrodes are made from non-ferromagnetic, low-conductivity materials designed to minimise safety risks and image interference, allowing patient monitoring to continue safely during an MRI procedure. This design allows researchers and clinicians to combine tES with MRI without compromising participant safety or image quality.
